What's "Fair" about the current tax system?

Constantly heard is that the top income earners must pay their "fair share." Just how is that determined? Who gets to say when it is fair enough? What's not fair about everybody paying the same rate? ...you get my point, I hope.
There is nothing fair about this.

Tipping Point?

According to the Tax Prof, we may have reached the tipping point: More takers than makers. To remedy this, I propose a simple change...If you don't pay, you don't play. Meaning of course, if you don't pay any Federal Income Tax, you don't get to vote in Federal Elections!
Why should somebody riding for free get to decide where the ship goes. It doesn't pass the sanity test.
Oh, and the change better come soon.

Tax Day Rally! April 15, 2011

It's that time of year again. Tea Partiers Unite! Smaller Government, Less Regulation, Fiscal Responsibility, Lower Taxes, etc.

You knew that it was only a matter of time before the tired and worn out methods became all of a sudden fresh and new! It has been tried before. It has been a miserable failure. Alan says it better than I could here.

When Government Gets More Power - You Lose More Freedom

That's the way it works folks! I am a big believer in the FairTax. When you look at how much time, effort, energy and money is spent in following the regulations of the IRS...and when you understand that the IRS employees are unable to tell you what the exact policy is...and when you understand that if you are ever audited it your responsibility to prove you are innocent...and when you understand that as of 2005 only one member of Congress prepared his own income tax paperwork...then you will understand that the IRS is not a friend to anybody in the United States, except of course the Congress.

This was a telling bit of information. Our esteemed Vice President, Mr. Biden isn't very giving with his money, but seems perfectly fine to give away the hard earnings of the U.S. Taxpayer.

Talk about intelligent design. When you can set the rules you can be the winner. Setting the Tax day about as far away from the Election Day just has to be thought out.

As Mark J. Perry says, "Given the national taxpayer outrage and foul mood this week about big-spending politicians, imagine if they went to the voting polls this week, or even this month?"

He and I both agree that a better idea for a responsible republic would be to have these two dates coincide. Then the money leaving the pocket would be a reminder that the person being elected is supposed to spend that money responsibly for the good of the country...a country of individuals, not one of groups.

Tax Freedom Day - Good News - Bad News

From Carpe Diem, the tax freedom day comes earlier than last year (that's the good news) meaning that you pay off your taxes earlier. The bad news is that "Americans will pay more in taxes than they will spend on food, clothing and housing combined."

That is simply amazing! Read that again...More in TAXES than FOOD + CLOTHING + HOUSING. The three items that are commonly known as necessities "Food, Shelter, Clothing" now take a smaller portion than the "two certainties in life"..."Death and Taxes." (I'm assuming that death happens at no cost.)

This was how it started... page 1 of a 4 page document...IRS 1040 from 1913.

Looks innocent enough...what could possibly go wrong with this simple form?
