What is wrong in Michigan? Common Sense has gone South for the Winter! This just can't be tolerated in a free society any more.
CARPE DIEM: Michigan's Babysitting Gestapo
Only boring people are bored! The items that I'm interested in include History, Economics (Capitalism-Yeah!), Guns, Cigars, Cars, Music, Military, and Birding. Again, the world is full of interests and interesting people.

Lefthandedness...the new area of growth
I've seen it all! There is money to be made in so many things just by viewing them from the world of left-handedness.

Funny - Nick Thune
While waiting for Rush Limbaugh to come on the Jay Leno show, I did enjoy this comedian.
Nick Thune. I wonder if he is any relation to Senator John Thune of South Dakota.
Anyway, as I said, I enjoyed it and actually laughed out loud...something I don't do often with TV comedians.

Disaggregated Data
Ever since going to Grad School, I've been intrigued by statistics and data collection. This article by the Wall Street Journal and the chart/data that accompanies it is simply astounding.

Way cool. Can you imagine where this will be in 20 years?
Alright, this isn't exactly Luke Skywalker's Hand, but it is pretty close.
Star Wars, later renamed Episode IV - A New Hope, came out in 1977-32 years ago. Try and remember how amazing something like a robotic arm was. Yes, Steve Austin had one too. But this was simply something that was "SCIENCE FICTION." Now the term "SCIENCE NON-FICTION" seems more appropriate.
I can't wait to see where even 20 years of development will bring this technology. A tip of the hat to Dean Kamen and his engineers and scientists.

Not Exactly Sure What She's Talking About
Watching this video statement from Speaker Pelosi. She seems to me to be trying to tell many Americans that their words can hurt.
Of particular note, the phase, "...some of the ears that it is falling on are not as balanced as the person making the statement may assume."
Is she talking about me?

Seersucker Crime Suit
I had this thought the other day while walking my dog. I can't explain where it came from, but I was thinking that the clothing one wears speaks volumes. Think of the following...
- Orange jump suit
- Black hoodie
- Seersucker jacket
Anyway, I thought of the idea of somebody burgling a house wearing seersucker was laughable.
I'm sure it has happened, but I couldn't comprehend the concept.
Some more facts on "seersucker."
Distinctively wrinkled seersucker was first woven in India. The name of the fabric is a Hindi derivation of a Persian phrase, "shir shakkar," which translates as "milk and sugar," representing the alternating rough and smooth textures of the cloth’s signature stripes.

So, what did you think?
Liberals loved it. Conservatives didn't.
Besides the "heckling" of Joe Wilson, there wasn't a whole lot that was different in this speech than any of his other speeches. Specifics were not there and the idea that you can increase coverage, increase service while lowering cost just doesn't ring true to millions of Americans.

What's to fear from the Peaceful Religion of Islam?
Sent to me from my buddy CHOP
Now Chop is a character. He talks with a drawl even though he has been educated at the U.S. Naval Academy and served 26 years all across the world. He has spent more time away from his South Carolina roots than he ever spent in them, however, with Chop the drawl is a part of him. It is like asking a tiger to be without his stripes.
He likes Sarah Palin. I think that she was the best person on either of the tickets. She is a conservative.
Read this article and see if you can argue the points the writer makes.

A lot of opportunity for the perp to stop before being shot.
From the esteemed John Lott's website.
Seems that a citizen with a concealed carry permit...and a gun...came to the assistance of another who feared for his life.

Ed.gov with misspelled word.
"Read my Lips"...yes, they are moving - you must be...
From the Washington Post
“If you rule out inflating our way out of the problem and defaulting on the debt, there are two ways: Cut spending or raise taxes,” said William G. Gale, an expert on fiscal policy at the Brookings Institution. With more than 80 percent of federal spending devoted to politically untouchable programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, he said, “it’s going to be really hard to make significant headway on the spending side. So that means you’ve got to think about taxes.”

Going Dutch
50 years of math in the US
Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters , but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried. Why do I tell you this? Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:
Teaching Math In 1950s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?
Teaching Math In 1960s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?
Teaching Math In 1970s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?
Teaching Math In 1980s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.
Teaching Math In 1990s
A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it's ok. )

The President finally gets specific...maybe.
Okay, before starting yet another government program. The constituents should be able to ask the following questions.
1) Why didn't Medicare work?
2) Why can't the Post Office be self sufficient?
3) Why is Social Security going broke?
4) Why doesn't Congress intend to sign up for the Health Care/Insurance Plan being forced on the rest of us?
5) How many more years until the War on Poverty will won?
Until any/all of these questions are answered to my satisfaction, I'm opposed to further growth of government at the expense of my liberty.
